Hello #LGBTQ+ community we hope you are well and enjoying your week so far! At Pink Pound we’ve been working very hard to recruit the best laser hair removal professionals to help you look amazing and feel full of confidence for Gay Pride 2020! We’ve been getting to know Christine and her team at Cristianos Laser Clinic, who has been working in the hair removal industry for years and now they want to offer their fabulous services to everyone including our Pink Pound LGBTQ community.
We recently spoke to the team, and can honestly say they are proud supporters of our LGBTQ+ community. With extensive experience in helping all men, women and transgender clients get rid of unwanted hair!
Cristianos was set up by Chris Hart a qualified electrologist, wanting to cure the world of unwanted hair was her passion. Chris had taken a job in the first commercial laser clinic in the country in Liverpool in 1997. Chris was sceptical at first as this idea of laser hair removal was new, however after meeting the physicist who had invented the Chromos 694 Ruby Laser and seeing it at work she was more than keen to help bring this treatment to as many people as could benefit. Her enthusiasm was not lost on the laser manufacturers and physicists and they offered her the opportunity to open her our clinic. However, it was an incident involving a trans woman that was to make up her mind. Chris was both shocked and saddened to see how little respect was paid to this trans woman and how badly she was treated by managers and other staff members. There and then Chris decided this was wrong and the very least she could do was to provide and ethical and professional service to people. Cristianos was born.
Not wanting to set up in competition to her ex employer she chose to open her first clinic over 40 miles away in Altrincham. The plan being to offer both laser and electrolysis in order to be able to provide treatment for both pigmented and none pigmented hair growth. Over the years this repertoire has extended by the use of different laser systems to help to successfully treat different skin types.
One of the things that had struck Chris was how hard it must be for a trans woman to come along and infront of people she has never met remove her make-up and reveal male pattern facial hair, not knowing what kind of reaction you are going to receive. This made Chris think she should get out into the community where people would understand that Chris understood their situation and that they would never be placed in a humiliating situation at Cristianos. Chris also knew that because treatment with laser was, at that time new there was much misrepresentation and misinformation, people needed honest, truthful information which would enable them to make solid choices.
Presenting at gender specific conferences and self-help groups was definitely the best way to do this. Public speaking is not fun for the vast majority of people, Chris included however her belief that this treatment could and would change the lives for the better for so many trans women meant she had to deal with her own fears and do it anyway.
Gradually trust in Chris’s integrity, honesty and reputation grew and in 2000 the London Clinic was established, followed in 2004 by Leeds, Bury in 2007 and Liverpool in 2011. Cristianos has a wonderful team of nurses and therapist providing treatment, many of them having been with the clinics since their opening day. Each professional getting an enormous sense of job satisfaction, knowing the treatment they provide makes such a difference to the lives of their clients.
Over the years Cristianos have been instrumental in the development of new treatment pathways for example the treatment of pre surgical donor site for both M2F and F2M gender dysphoric clients. Working closely with the surgeons to ensure the best post-operative outcome for patients.
Cristianos has made great contributions to the body of knowledge in terms of laser hair removal specific to the needs of the trans communities and has presented information in front of the NHS England Gender Committee, demonstrating longevity of results through evidence-based practice.
